UIC student involvement in our community

University Commons resident Cory Tanzer had the brilliant idea to partner with the UIC Athletic Department for two Community Day Clean Ups.

In July, and then again in October, student athletes, their coaches, members of the UIC S.E.R.V. E. organization,  along with residents of University Commons, and University Lofts came out to clean up parts of our community. Neither one of the hottest Saturdays in July, nor a rainy Saturday in October could put out the UIC Flames.

Thank you to the men’s and women’s gymnastics, basketball, swimming/diving, and track teams who all participated. Cold water, 16 pounds of oranges, and 46 pizzas gave the volunteers energy for all their hard work.

UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis is very proud of what the students’ community engagement, and what other departments are doing for our community. I recently received a lovely note from him in which he said, “As you know, we are committed to our relationship and support of the community – in many different ways – and we are looking forward to continue working with you.”

We live so close to campus that we  encourage you to follow the UIC athletic teams. Let’s give some community support to cheer on the Flames. Check out their schedule.
