ASHES UNDER WATER

Saturday, November 29 from 6pm to 8pm, author Michael McCarthy will discuss Chicago’s lost history in his book Ashes Under Water: The SS Eastland and the Shipwreck that Shook America. He takes us back one hundred years to the gritty streets of Chicago and the throaty blast of steamy whistles, unveiling the full story of the tragedy—and its aftermath—for the first time.

The third Friday each month at 6pm, Bad Grammar Theater brings readings from Chicago’s established and rising stars in horror, sci-fi, noir, and fantasy.

BANANA LAND: BLOOD, BULLETS & POISON

Thursday, December 4 at 6:30pm, the Chicago screening Banana Land: Blood, Bullets & Poison with a special Q&A afterward with co-director Diego Lopez! Learn about the health and human rights abuses of workers in the banana industry and what you can do to help.

Admission is FREE, but donations to the film are welcome! Refreshments will be available for a small donation.

CHICAGO’S MAXWELL STREET

Co-author Lori Grove will present Chicago’s Maxwell Street in a slide lecture on Sunday, December 7 at 3:30 p.m. Special attention will be given to the German Schoolhouse featured in the book in this historic neighborhood. Books will be available for sale.

We primarily specialize in academic and scholarly books, such as ancient and medieval history, philosophy, and theology, but also have extensive general interest sections, including fiction, children’s books, poetry, art, architecture, design and photography, and cookbooks and crafts.
