Youth Photographers and the City

IMG_1105B IMG_1123B IMG_1129B IMG_1131BAmazing things happen around University Commons!  The other day an impromptu photography exhibit was hung on a brick wall at 15th and Racine.  I immediately went over there and found out that the 10 student photographers were part of an advanced photography program sponsored by After School Matters.  They were out there learning to interact with the public and show their works.  What a clever teaching tool.  According to their advisor they will continue doing these impromptu showings around the area.

Additionally the students will be part of Elevarte Community Studio’s  We Are Hip Hop Festival that will take place on Saturday, August 10th from 1 pm to 6 pm in Dvorak Park (1119 W. Cullerton, between Carpenter & May Streets in Pilsen).  Redmoon Theater, another Pilsen neighbor will be performing!

The students will be exhibiting more of their photography that will be for sale.

The youth-run festival supports local hip-hop artists in the name of peace and anti-violence. Live music along with graffiti and break-dance battles set this party off.
