11 am to 9 pm
16th Street and Halsted
Mole de Mayo is a two day festival celebrating mole, one of the most traditional and oldest sauces from Mexico and dishes based on this sauce. Chicago chefs will compete with their own mole recipes for one of two awards: the official 2013 over-all winner of the Mole de Mayo best Mole Cook-Off Award, chosen by a panel of celebrities, and a People’s Choice Award chosen by the public.
In addition to the Mole Cook-Off, a market will feature local vendors and restaurants. There will be plenty of great food to eat. Entertainment will include local and international Latin-American acts performing throughout both days. The event features family-friendly traditional Lucha Libre wrestlers with their high-flying aerobatics. Mole de Mayo offers traditional Mexican alcoholic beverages, micheladas (Mexican beer-bloody mary) as an option to attendees.
You can also view all the great murals that are along 16th Street that have been put up over this past year.
