Urban Prairie School, currently located in the Pilsen neighborhood, has selected Little Italy as its new home. The School is in final stages of the lease signing processes with the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Urban Prairie’s new location is: 1220 W Lexington St Chicago, IL 60607, the former Catholic School immediately to the east of Our Lady of Pompeii Shrine . (Previously known as: Our Lady of Pompeii School.) The Church was instrumental in facilitating the move and has the full support of Father Richard Fragomeni, Business Manager Mary Beth Howard and the Church’s Facilities Committee.
Students will begin classes at the school on September 3rd.
According to School Board President, Michael Levine, the school anticipates spending approximately $200,000 renovating the building. He is also enthusiastic about the school providing an additional option for families not selected in the recent CPS magnet school lotteries.
When the final lease is signed by the Archdiocese, Urban Prairie board members expect to contact neighbors immediately adjacent to the School and Shrine buildings to work through issues about parking and school drop off.
Urban Prairie is a Private Elementary School in the Waldorf tradition and is currently located at 1601 S Halsted.
