Neighborhood organizations matter! Working with C4C keeps our community strong

As a sociologist, it always thrills me when my colleagues work gets covered in the New York Times, especially when their research helps to verify my own hunches. I have joined with friends and neighbors to work with C4C, our new community association because I’ve always believed that a neighborhood where we know one another, and share our strengths leads to better settings for kids to grow up, adults to find connections that matter with one another, and our elders to age. Now, research shows it too. In the New York Times last week, there was an article that suggested south side Chicago neighborhoods that have strong neighborhood community organizations have less crime and more social stability than other neighborhoods with the same economic challenges. Neighborhood organizations matter. I’m so glad our neighborhood has a new one…

Take a look at the article and then make your new year’s resolution to get more active in your own neighborhood association.
