UIC and our neighborhood in NYTimes today as model for U of C and it’s neighborhood

UC and UIC University Village NY Times article – 10/23/2012

In the business section of today’s New York times (Wed the 24th of October) is a story about the University of Chicago trying to re-develop  neighborhoods  around it’s campus to create a vibrant local community for faculty and students.  UIC’s successful attempt  at building  “University Village, a new residential and commercial district adjacent to it’s downtown campus” is cited a model to emulate. It’s great that our part of Chicago is getting national press, and the story gets it right. To continue to be this model, we are working hard to build new and stronger ties between the community and our anchor institution, UIC and it’s medical district. There is so much going on that many of us in the local neighborhoods don’t know about! In the coming weeks, i’ll be writing about lots of interesting things happening right here in our neighborhood. Including, finding the bowling alley and free classical concerts during the weekdays…
